CD8 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on a majority of thymocytes and also a subpopulation of peripheral blood T cells and NK cells. CD8 is a marker of cytotoxic T cells, which are specific for antigens presented by Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class I molecules.1
