Atherosclerosis is characterized by a gradual thickening of arterial walls due to the excessive accumulation of lipids. Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) is the principal form of cholesterol that accumulates in atherosclerotic lesions or plaques.1,2 Unlike native LDL, oxLDL binds to β2 glycoprotein I (β2GPI) to form oxLDL-β2GPI complexes. Stable oxLDL-β2GPI complexes are regarded as pathogenic and appear to be highly clinically relevant.3 Cayman’s oxLDL-β2GPI (human) ELISA is an immunometric (i.e., sandwich) assay that detects the circulating oxLDL-β2GPI complex in human serum or plasma. The wells of each 96-well plate are coated with a monoclonal antibody against human β2GPI. Bound oxLDL-β2GPI is detected using a horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-labeled monoclonal antibody directed against human apoB100. Results are calculated against a standard curve prepared from the Reference Solution provided in the kit.
