Description

Angiogenesis is a physiological process that occurs during wound healing and normal development which involves the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels. While normal angiogenesis is critical for homeostasis, abnormal angiogenesis is an important component of several diseases, most notably cancer where it is essential for tumor development and metastasis. Therefore inhibition of angiogenesis is one of the main therapeutic targets in cancer drug discovery. Cayman’s In Vitro Angiogenesis Assay Kit uses a one-step model to study regulators of angiogenesis. Cell survival is improved compared to the other assays by use of a modified extracellular matrix that has been validated in both short-term (2-3 days) and long-term (up to ten days) experiments. Cayman’s kit includes PMA and JNJ-10198409 as controls for stimulation and inhibition of angiogenesis, respectively, as well as the fluorescent dye Calcein AM for visualization of cell organization. This assay can be readily adapted to high throughput screening programs for identifying angiogenesis inhibitors.
