Description
p38 MAPK is activated by phosphorylation at Thr180 and Tyr182 in response to both inflammatory cytokines and stress, making it an important enzyme in diseases like asthma and autoimmunity, as well as in the stress response of the nervous system. The subcellular location of p38 following stimulation is not well understood. Some evidence suggests that activated p38 translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, whereas other reports indicate that phosphorylated p38 is present in the cytoplasm of stimulated cells.
