Description

Hexacosanoic acid is a 26-carbon saturated (26:0) fatty acid. Elevated plasma levels of saturated very-long-chain fatty acids and in particular hexacosanoic acid, are found in peroxisomal disorders including adrenoleukodystrophy.1 Increased levels of hexacosanoic acid in red blood cells or in plasma may also be associated with atherosclerosis2 and metabolic syndrome,3 respectively.
