9-Octadecenamide is the amide of oleic acid. It was first identified in the cerebrospinal fluid of sleep-deprived cats. 9-Octadecenamide has also been detected in the cerebrospinal fluid of rats and humans. It induces physiological sleep when injected into rats intraperitoneally at 5 to 50 mg doses. 1
