I found different solubility data from different sources. Which one is right?
If a researcher purchases the same chemical from different vendors, there can be variation in solubility. The following factors can affect the solubility of the same chemical: solvent of crystallization, residual solvent content, polymorphism, salt versus free form, degree of hydration, solvent temperature, dissolved oxygen present in the solvent, and grade of solvent. Please be advised that solubility information was generated using PBS, pH 7.2, and anhydrous, HPLC-grade solvents.
As of March 4th, 2024, Cayman has replaced quantitative solubility results with defined solubility qualifiers that have established ranges for a given solvent. The qualifiers and corresponding ranges are:
Soluble: ≥10 mg/ml
Sparingly Soluble: 1-10 mg/ml
Slightly Soluble: 0.1-1 mg/ml
This change is reflected on items added to our catalog after March 4th, 2024. Items introduced to the catalog before this date will continue to report quantitative solubility data. Attempting to prepare a more concentrated solution and adding additional solvent until the compound is in solution is recommended. Typically, warming the vial in a 37°C water bath with intermittent sonication or vortexing can assist the compound into solution. This may not be suitable for temperature-sensitive products, and additional handling notes may be found on the insert.
