Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediator ELISA Kit Notice

Press Release from 2022-08-11

ANN ARBOR, MI, AUGUST 11, 2022—Mass spectrometry is recognized as the gold standard for bioanalytical identification and quantification. To provide our customers with a faster, more convenient, and accessible approach, we developed and validated ELISAs for lipid quantitation.

Recently, the authors of several peer-reviewed papers using mass spectrometry-based methods have been in conflict with each other, and do not agree on how much, if any, specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are present in human samples. These ongoing discussions include concerns about SPM measurement by ELISA, such as Cayman's Resolvin E1 (Item No. 502150), Resolvin D1 (Item No. 500380), Resolvin D2 (Item No. 501120), and Maresin 1 (Item No. 501150) ELISA Kits.

Cayman is committed to providing quality research tools to the scientific community. Our ELISAs undergo rigorous validation for sensitivity, precision, linearity, and cross-reactivity prior to release. However, antibody-based detection methods like ELISA, though well-characterized, have the potential to overestimate target analyte concentrations due to many factors, including non-specific antibody binding, sample handling and preparation, and matrix-specific effects, amongst others. Researchers are advised to validate results from these ELISAs with a secondary detection method or to clearly report the limitations of these ELISAs in their publications.

We support continued research on SPM analytical methods. To help make this research possible, Cayman has recently funded grants through our nonprofit entity, CABRI (Cayman Biomedical Research Institute).

Any questions about Cayman's SPM ELISAs may be directed to our Technical Support scientists.
