DOWNLOAD NOWCeftriaxone is a cephalosporin antibiotic.1 It is selectively active against Gram-negative bacteria, including N. gonorrhea and S. pyogenes (MICs = 0.01-0.025 and 0.012-0.25 µg/ml, respectively), over Gram-positive bacteria such as S. epidermidis and S. aureus (MICs = >25 µg/ml for both). Ceftriaxone inhibits S. pyogenes penicillin-binding protein 2 (PBP2) and PBP3 (IC50s = 0.108 and 0.146 µg/ml, respectively).2 Formulations containing ceftriaxone have been used in the treatment of various bacterial infections.
