    Homovanillic acid sulfate is a phenol found in olive oil and a dopamine metabolite.1,2,3 It is a component of low-density lipoprotein in humans that consume olive oil.1 Homovanillic acid sulfate levels are increased in response to acute renal injury in humans and rats, and it has been used as a biomarker for early detection of kidney disease in pediatric nephrology.2,3
