Chlormezanone is a centrally acting muscle relaxant.1 It induces paralysis in mice, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, and monkeys (EC50s = 133, <200, 100-250, 50, and 50 mg/kg, respectively). Chlormezanone increases ataxia induced by pentobarbital and alcohol in mice and blocks the crossed extensor reflex of the spine without affecting the knee-jerk reflex in cats. It also induces head drop in rabbits.
