Pyrocoll is a bacterial metabolite originally isolated from Streptomyces.1 It inhibits the growth of A. aurescens, A. globiformis, A. oxydans, A. pascens, and R. erythropolis bacteria (MICs = 10, 1, 10, 3, and 10 μg/ml, respectively) and HMO2, HepG2, and MCF-7 cancer cells (GI50s = 0.28, 0.42, and 2.2 μg/ml, respectively) in vitro. Pyrocoll is also active against P. falciparum and T. rhodesiense (IC50s = 1.19 and 1.97 μg/ml, respectively).
