Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is a synthetic acetylated and amidated hexapeptide consisting of amino acid residues 12-17 of synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25).1 It inhibits formation of the SNARE complex in vitro in a concentration-dependent manner. It also inhibits calcium-induced norepinephrine release in permeabilized chromaffin cells (IC50 = 110 μM). Acetyl hexapeptide-3 (10% in an oil-and-water emulsion) inhibits decreases in type I collagen levels and skin thickness, as well as increases in type III collagen levels, in skin in a mouse model of subacute aging induced by D-galactose (Item No. 20890) when administered topically.2
