Rafoxanide is an anthelmintic.1,2,3 In vivo, rafoxanide (50 mg/kg) completely eradicates E. caproni infection in mice.1 It is active against H. contortus in sheep when administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg and eliminates mature F. hepatica flukes in cattle when administered at a dose of 7.5 mg/kg.2,3 It is also cytotoxic to A375 and A431 skin cancer cells in vitro (IC50s = 10.9 and 1.31 µM, respectively) and reduces tumor growth in an A375 mouse xenograft model when administered at a dose of 40 mg/kg.3 Formulations containing rafoxanide have been used in the treatment of parasitic infections in sheep and cattle.
