Carbazomycin C is a bacterial metabolite that has been found in Streptomyces and has diverse biological activities.1,2,3 It is active against S. aureus, B. anthracis, B. subtilis, and M. flavus (MICs = 50, 25, 100, and 50 µg/ml, respectively), the fungi T. asteroides and T. mentagrophytes (MICs = 25 and 100 µg/ml, respectively), and P. falciparum (IC50 = 2.1 µg/ml).2 It is also active against a panel of five plant pathogenic fungi (MICs = 12.5-100 µg/ml).1 Carbazomycin C is cytotoxic to MCF-7, KB, and NCI H187 cells (IC50s = 9.8, 21.4, and 8.2 µg/ml, respectively).2 It also inhibits 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) activity in RBL-1 cell extracts (IC50 = 1.9 µM).3
