DOWNLOAD NOWDeferitazole is an iron chelator.1 It decreases the levels of iron in iron-citrate complexes when used at a concentration of 50 µM. Deferitazole (25 µM) also reduces the number of P. falciparum oocytes, an effect that can be prevented by the addition of ferric chloride, and the percent of flagellated P. falciparum male gametocytes in vitro.2 It decreases the urine and fecal levels of iron excreted from iron-loaded C. apella monkeys when administered at a dose of 150 µmol/kg.3
