Calcineurin B is the regulatory subunit of calcineurin, a serine/threonine phosphatase with roles in T cell activation, cardiac function, learning and memory, apoptosis, and cell cycle regulation.1,2 It is encoded by two genes in mammals, PPP3R1, which is expressed in all tissues except the testes, and the testicular-restricted isoform PP3R2.1,3 Calcineurin B is a calcium-binding protein that contains four EF-hand calcium-binding sites, and calcium binding to calcineurin B is essential to both the phosphatase activity of calcineurin A and binding of inhibitor complexes to calcineurin.4,5 Cayman's Calcineurin B (human, recombinant) protein can be used for binding assays. This protein consists of 187 amino acids and has a calculated molecular weight of 21.4 kDa.
