    Product Description

    Methylprotodioscin is a steroidal saponin that has been found in A. cochinchinensis and has diverse biological activities.1,2,3 It suppresses mucin 5AC (MUC5AC) production induced by EGF or phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA; Item No. 10008014) in H292 cells when used at a concentration of 1 µM.1 Methylprotodioscin inhibits the proliferation of HeLa cervical cancer cells (IC50 = 18.31 µM) but has no effect on non-cancerous HEK293 cells.2 It also induces production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase in HeLa cells. In vivo, methylprotodioscin (50 mg/kg) decreases bone loss and prevents decreases in bone mineral content and bone mineral density in a mouse model of ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis.3
