Small integral membrane protein 11 (SMIM11) is a single-pass membrane protein encoded by the SMIM11 gene found on human chromosome 21 (HC21), the chromosome that is trisomic in Down syndrome.1 It is composed of a single α helical domain and is expressed in a variety of human and mouse tissues. SMIM11A expression is increased in an in vitro cancer cell model of vascular mimicry, and its silencing via siRNA prevents the formation of tubular structures in the same model.2
