Eurycomalactone is a quassinoid that has been found in E. longifolia and has diverse biological activities.1,2,3 It inhibits TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation in a reporter assay using HEK293 cells (IC50 = 0.5 µM).1 Eurycomalactone also inhibits viral infection of HCT-8 cells with human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43) and Vero cells with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in cellular immunoassays (IC50s = 0.37 and 0.51 µM, respectively).2 It is cytotoxic to A549 human lung and HeLa cervical cancer cells when used at concentrations of 10 and 100 µM.3
