Pterin is a pteridine that has been found in C. croceus and has antibacterial activity.1,2 It reduces the proliferation of, and biofilm production by, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and S. mutans when used at concentrations of 100 or 150 µg/ml.2 Pterin levels are increased in urine samples from patients with breast, lung, colon, or rectal cancer.3
