DOWNLOAD NOW4-methoxy-5-Hydroxycathin-6-one is an alkaloid that has been found in P. quassioides and has anti-inflammatory activity.1,2 It reduces LPS-induced TNF-α release from, and nitric oxide (NO) production in, RAW 264.7 macrophages when used at concentrations of 10, 30, and 100 µM.1 In vivo, 4-methoxy-5-hydroxycathin-6-one (9 and 27 mg/kg) reduces paw swelling in a rat model of arthritis induced by complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA). It also reduces colonic inflammatory cytokine levels and maintains mucosal barrier function in wild-type, but not Fxr-/-, mice in a model of colitis induced by the sulfated polysaccharide dextran sulfate sodium (DSS; Item No. 23250) when administered at doses ranging from 25 to 100 mg/kg.2
