Buspirone-d8 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of buspirone by GC- or LC-MS. Buspirone is a partial agonist of the serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtype 5-HT1A.1 It binds to the 5-HT1A receptor (IC50 = 5.6 nM) and inhibits forskolin-induced adenylate cyclase activity in primary CA1 hippocampal pyramidal cells. Buspirone inhibits conditioned avoidance responding in rats, as well as inhibits foot shock-induced fighting in mice.2 Formulations containing buspirone have been used in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.
