Bexicaserin is an agonist of the serotonin (5-HT) receptor subtype 5-HT2C.1 It selectively stimulates the accumulation of inositol phosphate in HEK cells expressing the 5-HT2C receptor (EC50 = 42 nM) over those expressing the 5-HT2A or 5-HT2B receptors (EC50s = >50,000 nM for both). Bexicaserin (10 mg/kg, p.o.) reduces food intake by 81% in fasted rats.
