Baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein 7 (BIRC7) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase and member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family with roles in the regulation of apoptotic cell death.1,2,3 It is composed of a single BIR domain and a C-terminal RING domain with E3 ubiquitin ligase activity.1 BIRC7 has low or undetectable expression in differentiated adult tissues but is expressed at high levels in spleen, lymph nodes, developing embryonic tissues, and placenta and exhibits isoform-specific cellular localization. Full-length BIRC7 localizes to the cytoplasm and inhibits apoptosis, while truncated BIRC7 isoforms accumulate in the Golgi and have pro-apoptotic functions. BIRC7 is overexpressed in papillary thyroid carcinoma compared with non-cancerous thyroid tissue and positively correlates with metastasis.2 BIRC7 expression is negatively correlated with event-free survival and overall survival in patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).3 Cayman’s BIRC7 (human, recombinant) protein can be used for enzyme activity and Western blot (WB) applications and has a calculated molecular weight of 33 kDa.
