Chemotactic domain of elastin is an elastin-derived peptide (EDP) and matrikine.1,2 It induces migration of primary bovine fibroblasts and isolated human monocytes at 10 nM.1 Chemotactic domain of elastin also induces migration of M-27 Lewis lung carcinoma cells in vitro (EC50 = ~3 nM).3 It increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in primary mouse astrocytes at 0.1 nM.4 Chemotactic domain of elastin (150 µg/kg) decreases lifespan, locomotor activity, and lean tissue percentage, increases body weight and fat tissue percentage, and induces kyphosis in mice.2 Conjugation of chemotactic domain of elastin to a cell-penetrating peptide (CPP) increases the transfection efficiency of nucleic acid complexes.5
