Reversan is an inhibitor of multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1).1 It sensitizes MCF-7/VP breast cancer cells, which have amplified MRP1 and low P-glycoprotein/MDR1 expression, to the MRP1 substrates doxorubicin (Item No. 15007), vincristine (Item No. 11764), and etoposide (Item No. 12092) by 3.8-, 8.9-, and 2.7-fold, respectively, at 5 µM but does not sensitize these cells to the non-MRP1 substrates cisplatin (Item No. 13119) or paclitaxel (Item No. 10461) at 5 µM. Reversan (10 mg/kg) enhances vincristine- or etoposide-induced increases in survival in a model of neuroblastoma using hMYCN transgenic mice. It restores the alveolar fluid clearance rate and decreases bacterial colony-forming units (CFUs) in the injured lobe in ex vivo perfused human lungs injured with E. coli pneumonia.2
