Press Release from 2019-04-02
Ann Arbor, April 02, 2019—With the successful completion of an audit by the American National Accreditation Board (ANAB), Cayman Chemical updates its accreditation to ISO 17034:2016 to remain current with the quality system changes issued by the International Organization for Standardization. The ISO 17034:2016 standard replaces the ISO Guide 34:2009 as the general requirement for the competence of reference material producers. Cayman was also found compliant with the updated ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard that supersedes the previously issued ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. Criteria for both the ISO 17034:2016 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards now include documentation for impartiality, risk assessment, and confidentiality. “Customers can be assured that we are staying current with industry quality standards,” said Kyle Hoskins, Manager of ISO Quality Assurance at Cayman. “Over the past year, we have taken all necessary steps to transition all of our documentation to meet the new requirements and to train our staff to the newest criteria set by ISO.”
The 17034 standard focuses on the production, distribution, and storage of reference materials (RMs) and certified reference materials (CRMs). The revised 17025 standard includes a special focus on accuracy and reliability of data. Each RM and CRM is accompanied by a certificate of analysis (CofA) which includes a comprehensive table of methods used for the analysis of the neat material, an estimate of uncertainty for each measurement, all relevant analytical data, and a stability assessment. The CofAs for CRMs additionally report the certified concentration and corrected purity values with the corresponding measurement uncertainties, ensuring the metrological traceability and accuracy needed to perform quantitative measurements.
“Cayman scientists and QA staff are dedicated to offering reliable analytical standards. Reference materials and certified reference materials produced and tested under Cayman’s ISO scope of accreditation ensure consistent materials that are fit for a range of testing purposes, from the confirmation of molecular structures to providing the metrological traceability needed to accomplish reliable, quantitative measurements,” said Roxanne Franckowski, Cayman’s Manager of ISO Quality. “I am proud to stand behind the quality of Cayman’s ISO Reference Materials and Certified Reference Materials.”
In 2013, Cayman became accredited through ACLASS in both ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and ISO Guide 34:2009. In 2015, ANAB became Cayman’s accrediting body. Our new certificates are valid to April 21, 2021.
