Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an anionic phospholipid that is normally restricted to the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane bilayer of cells, appearing on the outer leaflet early in apoptosis and thus available for recognition by phagocytes.1,2 1,2-Dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-PS (DPPS) is a form of PS that contains the abundant long-chain (16:0) palmitic acid inserted at the sn-1 and sn-2 positions. It is commonly used in the generation of liposomes and other types of artificial membranes.3,4
