DOWNLOAD NOWSulfameter is a long-acting sulfonamide antibiotic.1 In vitro, it is active against the bacteria D. pneumoniae, K. pneumoniae, E. coli, N. meningitidis, P. vulgaris, S. aureus, S. haemolyticus, and S. typhimurium in a disc assay.2 Sulfameter is efficacious against lethal K. pneumoniae, E. coli, P. vulgaris, D. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, and S. typhimurium infection in a mouse model of septicemia with 50% curative dose (CD50) values of 1.6, 5.2, 5.4, 120.5, 19.1, and 88 mg/kg, respectively. Formulations containing sulfameter have previously been used in the treatment of urinary tract infections.
