ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY TOOLS & SERVICEST-2 toxin-13C24 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of T-2 toxin (Item No. 11444) by GC- or LC-MS. T-2 toxin is a trichothecene mycotoxin produced by some species of Fusarium.1,2 It binds to and inhibits peptidyl transferase in the 60S ribosomal subunit, resulting in inhibition of protein synthesis.3 T-2 toxin is immunosuppressive in rats, where it reduces serum levels of IgG, IgM, and IgA, lymphocytes, and pro-inflammatory cytokines.4 It crosses the blood-brain barrier and induces oxidative damage-mediated neurotoxicity in mice.5 It is also lethal to mice (LD50 = 10 mg/kg, p.o.) and induces pathological changes in multiple organs and tissues in various animal models.1,6 T-2 toxin has been found in grain from Fusarium-infected wheat.7
