D-Arginine is an amino acid and the dextrorotary isomer of the conditionally essential amino acid L-arginine (Item No. 23703).1 It has been found in mouse brain.2 Unlike L-arginine, it is not a substrate for nitric oxide synthase and has been used as a negative control for the production of nitric oxide (NO) in isolated perfused rabbit aorta.3 D-Arginine inhibits the antinociceptive activity of L-arginine in a mouse model of carrageenan-induced pain when administered at a dose of 1,000 mg/kg.4
