    D-(−)-Tagatose is a natural non-caloric sweetener and hexose monosaccharide that has been found in dairy products.1 It is metabolized by gut bacteria in the colon of pigs.2 Formulations containing D-(−)-tagatose have been used as a sweetening agents in foods and beverages.
