    Product Description

BI-99179 is an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase type I (FAS-I; IC50 = 79 nM), a multifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-coenzyme A (acetyl-CoA; Item No. 16160) and malonyl-CoA (Item No. 16455) to long-chain fatty acids.1 It is selective for FAS-I over 30 other enzymes, receptors, and ion channels at 10 µM. BI-99179 inhibits the incorporation of 14C-acetate in mouse N-42 hypothalamus cells (IC50 = 570 nM). It reduces the proliferation of GaMG human glioma cells when used at a concentration of 10 µM.2
