OBESITY RESEARCH SOLUTIONSTesamorelin is a derivative of human growth hormone-releasing factor (1-44) (hGRF (1-44)) containing a hexanoyl adduct at the N-terminus, rendering it resistant to degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4).1 In vivo, tesamorelin (20 µg/kg twice daily) increases serum levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in growing pigs.2 It also increases serum levels of growth hormone and IGF-1 in rats and dogs.1 Formulations containing tesamorelin have been used in the treatment of excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy.
