    Product Description

2-Hydroxybutyrate-d3 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of 2-hydroxybutyrate by GC- or LC-MS. 2-Hydroxybutyrate is an endogenous metabolite.1 It is formed from 2-oxobutyrate by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as a byproduct of cysteine biosynthesis. 2-Hydroxybutyrate (500 µM) inhibits branched-chain amino acid transaminase 2 (BCAT2) in a cell-free assay and increases the NAD+/NADH ratio in C2C12 myoblasts. It increases soleus muscle resistance to fatigue in mice when administered at a dose of 1 mmol/kg. Plasma levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate increase with increasing insulin resistance and dysglycemia in nondiabetic patients.2 Increased serum levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate are associated with increased 3-month mortality in patients with acute heart failure.3
