ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY TOOLS & SERVICESAcid red 27 is an azo dye.1 It displays an absorption maximum at 520 nm. Acid red 27 (47 mg/kg) increases total lymphocytes and basophils and decreases total neutrophils and monocytes but does not affect body weight or serum protein levels in rats.2 It has been found as a contaminant in wastewater.1 Formulations containing acid red 27 have previously been used as food and cosmetic dyes.
