OBESITY RESEARCH SOLUTIONSPolyporenic acid C is a triterpene that has been found in P. cocos and has diverse biological activities.1,2,3 It is active against M. phlei and M. smegmatis when used at concentrations ranging from 0.78 to 2 µg/ml.1 Polyporenic acid C (20, 60, and 80 µM) induces apoptosis in A549 lung cancer cells.2 In vivo, polyporenic acid C (25 and 50 mg/kg) reduces hepatic lipid accumulation and inguinal white adipose tissue mitochondrial degeneration and increases the inguinal brown adipose tissue index in a mouse model of high-fat diet-induced steatosis.3
