Aumitin is an inhibitor of mitochondrial complex I, also known as NADH dehydrogenase, and autophagy.1 It is selective for mitochondrial complex I over mitochondrial complex II, -III, and -IV at 3 µM and a panel of 417 kinases at 1 µM. However, aumitin does inhibit PI4Kβ and PI3KC2γ. Aumitin inhibits mitochondrial respiration in HeLa cervical and MCF-7 breast cancer cells (IC50s = 0.11 and 0.44 µM, respectively) and starvation- or rapamycin-induced autophagy in MCF-7 cells (IC50s = 0.124 and 0.244 µM, respectively).
