SUN11602 is a mimetic of FGF2, also known as basic FGF (bFGF).1 It protects against glutamate-induced toxicity in primary rat cortical neurons when used at concentrations of 0.1, 0.3, and 1 µM, an effect that can be reversed by the FGFR1 inhibitor PD 166866 (Item No. 22464). SUN11602 (1 µM) stimulates neurite outgrowth in primary rat hippocampal neurons.2 It reduces cognitive deficits induced by injection of aggregated amyloid-β (1-40) (Aβ40) and ibotenic acid (Item No. 14584) into the hippocampus in a rat model of Alzheimer’s disease when administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg.
