    Product Description

Klotho-derived peptide 1 (KP1) is an antifibrotic peptide antagonist of TGF-β receptor type 2 (TGFBR2) that corresponds to amino acids 56-87 of human Klotho, an anti-aging protein involved in TGF-β, Wnt, and FGF2 signaling.1 It binds to TGFBR2 (Kd = 1.41 µM) and inhibits TGF-β-induced increases in fibronectin and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) levels in NRK-49F rat fibroblasts. In vivo, KP1 (1 mg/kg per day) selectively localizes to damaged kidneys and reduces fibrosis and serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels in mouse models of renal fibrosis. It also prevents severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) nucleocapsid protein-induced aggravation of acute kidney injury, reduces bile duct ligation-induced cholestatic fibrosis, and decreases acute liver injury-induced hepatic fibrosis in mice.2,3 KP1 (1 mg/kg) preserves erectile function and decreases corporal apoptosis and oxidative damage in a rat model of bilateral cavernous nerve injury.4
