    Galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-Gal) is a carbohydrate allergen found in non-catarrhine mammals.1,2 It causes alpha-Gal syndrome (AGS), which is mediated by anti-α-Gal IgE antibodies primarily arising from tick bites, which results in red meat allergies. AGS can also originate from cetuximab exposure or xenotransplantation.
