Saikosaponin B2 is a triterpenoid saponin that has been found in B. chinensis and has diverse biological activities.1,2,3 It is an antagonist of transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) and inhibits calcium flux induced by polygodial (Item No. 14979) or allyl isothiocyanate in HEK293 cells expressing human TRPA1 when used at concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 µM.1 Saikosaponin B2 inhibits hepatitis C virus (HCV) viral entry into, but not replication in, Huh7.5 cells (EC50 = 16.13 µM) with a 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) value of 740.4 µM.2 It protects SH-SY5Y cells from hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death when used at a concentration of 50 µg/ml.3
