Lipid-Based Drug Delivery

Drug delivery systems using lipid-based nanoparticles (e.g., liposomes, lipid nanoparticles) offer significant advantages in drug delivery, boosting bioavailability, reducing toxicity, and enabling the administration of therapeutics that are prone to instability. Liposomes are composed of a phospholipid bilayer intercalated with sterols to influence membrane structure and other ligands or polymers like PEG to improve targeting and stability. The composition of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) includes ionizable cationic lipids, making them useful for nucleic acid delivery.

Cayman’s Drug Discovery Programs

Several eicosanoids have been identified as opportune targets for the invention of novel therapeutics. Cayman scientists are actively developing compounds for bone growth and repair that activate the prostaglandin E receptor 4 (EP4). Numerous patents have been filed for the complex syntheses of several small molecules, for assay technologies, and for the commercial manufacture of eicosanoids as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). This includes APIs used for the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in glaucoma. Our scientists also provide these services to clients to identify and develop target molecules.
